News 18 September, 2006 "Winter Women boasts some of his best material -- 'Up the River' is a sparkling space-funk jam like Beck fronting the Zombies" --Spin. "Amazing, excellent similary imaginative fully realized efforts" --Paste. "Friedberger clearly knows how to write a catchy song -- "The Pennsylvania Rock Oil Company Resignation Letter" is dreamy and summery -- "Do You Like Blondes" just begs to be danced to in some scuzzy dive bar." --Nylon. The music press, even those lobotomized by a diet of major label McRap, McSoul and McRock are having to actually think about Matt's record and deal with an Artist not afraid to build sonic novels and narratives with lyrics and guitars, someone who approaches his records like David Lynch approaches his movies. The Furnaces will be going on tour and Matt will be performing songs from both discs. Here are dates: October 31 July, 2006 Winter Women / Holy Ghost Language School, the solo record from Matthew Friedberger is released on August 8th and should be in your local store for no more than $18.98. If the store is charging more or doesn't have it please send us a note with store name, address and anything relevant to us using the email link at the bottom of this page. Matt's record is discussed in detail on the Releases page. And two mp3s are available: The Pennsylvania Rock Oil Company Resignation Letter (5.2mb) from Winter Women and Do You Like Blondes? (4.0mb) from Holy Ghost Language School. You should also check the Interview page for a chat between Matt and 'The Old Geezer,' the 859 Recordings President and Champion Tractor Racer. The interview will be part of an ongoing series where 'The Old Geezer' spouts on and the Artist hopefully answers. Matthew Friedberger's Winter Women / Holy Ghost Language School is the first release from 859 Recordings -- we intend to release one or two records a year, keep it special and different so if you have any music you'd like us to listen to with a view to releasing please send to: 859 Recordings, PO Box 333, Kenoza Lake, NY 12750. Matt is one half of The Fiery Furnaces -- for more
